A careful, conservation-led restoration
Victorian tiled floors are as beautiful as they are fragile. Decades of paint, adhesive, wax and household cleaners can flatten the pattern and dull the pigment. We work slowly and by hand, lifting those layers with breathable, pH-neutral products rather than aggressive strippers.
Quarry tiles need the same patient approach. Those deep red and buff unglazed tiles — common in Victorian kitchens, sculleries, hallways and farmhouses — are often hidden under old sealers, polish, carpet adhesive or a haze of white salts. We lift that build-up, deep clean the tiles and let the natural earthy tone come back through.
Once the floor is clean, sealing is something we can offer afterwards as an optional extra. A breathable finish protects against staining while allowing the tiles to release moisture — worth considering in older properties, especially quarry tiles laid directly onto earth or sand.
